Year 5 - Holdenby House

On Tuesday 12 June 2018, Year 5 were transported back to 1891 and visited Holdenby House where they were given an insight into the life of a Victorian Servant. The children were under the strict supervision of Mrs Crumpet, a cook, who expected lots of help in her kitchen and Mr Rhett, a severe butler.

At the start of the day, the children were allocated jobs and undertook lots of practical activities including cooking, polishing and doing the laundry. Then we were taken around the house, where we were told of the servants' conditions of service and taught Victorian deportment and manners.

In the afternoon the class presented themselves to her Ladyship and entertained her with a hymn.

An educational and enjoyable day was had by all.
