Dodgeball Tournament - December 2025

Our Year 3 and Year 4 Dodgeball team recently attended a tournament hosted by Thomas Deacon Academy. The team performed really well, showing great enthusiasm and sportsmanship while competing against other Peterborough primary schools.

We are very proud of their effort and teamwork throughout the event.

Year 2 - Cathedral Visit

Year Two enjoyed their trip to Peterborough Cathedral. We began our day by completing five activities based around the Christmas Story before looking at the current Christmas Tree exhibition. After lunch, we took a more detailed look at the stained-glass windows and then made our own.

Football Match

On Friday 21st November, we played our first league match against Oakdale, and the children put on a fantastic performance. They showed great teamwork, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the game.

Hockey Tournament - November 2025

Our hockey team delivered an outstanding performance at a recent tournament hosted by the City of Peterborough Hockey Club. With determination, teamwork, and skill on full display, the team secured an impressive 6 wins out of 8 games. Their hard work and competitive spirit shone through every match—well done to all the players.

Year 4 Roman Trip to Flag Fen

On Thursday 16^th October, Year 4 stepped into the shoes of the Romans at Flag Fen! We explored the Roman Empire in Britain through hands-on activities, such as making sculptures out of clay and studying artefacts. We considered the impact of the spread of the Roman Empire in Britain, the importance of strong military tactics and Boudica's role in the British resistance against the Roman invasion.

Hockey Tournament

This week we took some Year 3 and 4 children to take part in a hockey tournament hosted by The City of Peterborough Hockey Club.

The team played a total of eight matches, showing fantastic skill, determination, and team spirit throughout the event, securing five impressive wins against some very strong opposition.

Well done to everyone, we couldn’t be prouder of how you played and conducted yourselves.

Year 5 - Houses of Parliament Trip

On Monday 6th October, our Year 5 pupils had an exciting visit to the Houses of Parliament in London. They explored the famous chambers of the House of Commons and the House of Lords, walking in the footsteps of the people who help shape our country. The children learnt how new laws are made and followed the journey of a bill as it becomes law. It was a fantastic day that brought their learning about democracy to life and left everyone inspired by the importance of having a voice and taking part in our country's decisions.

Peter Burrows Visit

We were thrilled to welcome POSH — Peterborough United Football Club — to our school for a special assembly! Staff from POSH and Peter joined us to share insights about teamwork, perseverance, and the importance of healthy lifestyles, both on and off the pitch. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to engage with local sporting role models and be inspired by their experiences.

Reception - Hammerton Zoo

On 1^st July 2025, Reception visited Hamerton Zoo. They were able to see a wide range of interesting animals and learnt lots of new facts about them. The children also took part in a classroom-led session in which they learnt about nocturnal and diurnal animals. During this time, they even got to meet a snake! After this, they ventured around the zoo to see lots of other exciting animals, including some monkeys, camels and Siberian tigers. The children all had a very exciting day.

Year 1 Snettisham Trip

On Wednesday 25^th June 2025, Year 1 went on a trip to Snettisham Park Farm as part of our Topic on 'Food & Farming'. In the morning, we fed the greedy goats and the cute lambs. The children were great shepherds and shepherdesses, pushing the lambs back into their pens. Then, we collected the eggs from the hen hatch and checked their size. We also got the tortoises out of their enclosure and watched them crawl across the grass as we stroked their shells. In the afternoon, we went on a tractor ride to feed the deer.

Year 3 - Cambridge Science Centre

Year 3 enjoyed programming Ember the dragon using a Micro:bit before exploring the activity centre.

Year 3 visit to Beth Shalom Reform Synagogue.

Year 3 received a warm welcome to the synagogue. We learned how Jewish families hold a Shabbat dinner each week and what happens during the dinner. We were also able to see the Ark and the Torah which we have been learning about in our RE lessons. One class member was able to dress up as a high priest and we learned how the dressings on the Torah replicate this.

Year 3 - Archaeologist Visit

We enjoyed a visit from an Ancient Egypt archaeologist.

We learnt about the skills required when excavations are taking place and how many different professionals are involved - from biologists to town planning.

We were able to hold a tool from over 3000 years ago.

Friday 21^st March was Red Nose Day and non-uniform day at Heritage Park Primary School. The children enjoyed wearing their red noses and raising funds for Comic Relief.

Reception - Ramsey Heights

Reception class enjoyed their first school trip to Ramsey Heights nature reserve. They experienced a wide range of activities linked to the natural world, including a nature walk, bird watching, bug hunting and den building. The children also enjoyed learning about how acorns grow into oak trees through an interactive story experience. We discovered which animals live at Ramsey Heights through evidence such as animal trails but also through seeing some of the animals, such as the birds.

We had a lovely first school trip, and luckily the sun was shining for us all day which made for an even better experience!

Reading activities in school

March has been an extremely busy month for reading at Heritage Park Primary School. We started the month by celebrating World Book Day where the children shared their love of reading through lots of fun activities throughout the day, including a picture book scavenger hunt around school.

For Reception and Key Stage One pupils, we held a Bedtime Story event after school which was extremely well attended by parents and pupils.

We have also held external workshops called ‘Bringing books to life’ in which each class had the opportunity to learn a dance to support their storytelling.

Later this month, we will be holding our own Scholastic Book Fair and there is a competition open for children to try and win a book token to spend at the book fair.

Year 1 - Pirate Day at Ferry Meadows

On Thursday 13^th March, Year 1 went to Ferry Meadows for a pirate-themed outdoor trip. In the morning, they created and tested model pirate ships on the lake and built shelters in the form of dens. In the afternoon, they went hunting for treasure by following a map to collect clues and crack the code.

Breakdancing and Beatboxing Day

On Monday, 27th January, our Key Stage 1 and 2 students had a fantastic time during our Break Dancing and Beat Boxing Day! Throughout the day, the students participated in various activities led by experienced instructors who taught them the fundamentals of break dancing and beatboxing. It was wonderful to see the children express themselves creatively while developing their coordination, rhythm, and teamwork skills. Many of them showed remarkable enthusiasm and talent.

Walk Around Park Farm - Year 1

Year 1 enjoyed watching the classic animated film 'The Snowman and The Snowdog' at the New Theatre. The Peterborough Music Hub orchestra performed the soundtrack live alongside a selection of festive music favourites.

Year 2 - Exploring Christmas

Year 2 went on a school trip to Peterborough Cathedral as part of their RE work about Christmas. They explored how Mary was feeling when she received the news about having a baby, learnt more about the long journey they took to Bethlehem and discussed how the news was spread to the shepherds. They also looked at how different people celebrate Christmas and explored the meaning of advent. The children then had the opportunity to learn more about the stained-glass windows within the cathedral and had a go at making their own.

On Friday 15th November, 2 teams represented Heritage Park against Woodston in our local football league. The children worked really well as a team supporting each other.

On Thursday 21st November, the team played their next league match at Oakdale. Despite very cold weather conditions, they rose to the occasion and really chased down each ball and opportunity.

Year 5 - Space Centre Trip

Year 5 went to the Space Centre in Leicester on the 15^th November. The children enjoyed learning about the earth, moon and sun and visiting the planetarium. The children enjoyed exploring the space centre.

Odd Sock Day

Year 2 - Edward Tingatinga Art

This term, Year 2 have been learning about Edward Tingatinga. They explored different paints before completing their final pieces in the style of their artist. They chose different African animals that they had been learning about in geography for the basis of their pieces.

Year 6 Residential

Year 6 enjoyed their residential at PGL Caythorpe. The children all pushed themselves to try new experiences and took part in a variety of activities including: abseiling, giant swing, archery, zipwire, ambush, orienteering, nightline, canoeing and a disco.

Year 1 - Burghley House

Burghley House – Tuesday 8^th October

Year 1 went on a school trip to Burghley House as part of their history unit on toys and childhood. They had a tour of the house and learnt all about how the Victorians lived. They then were able to look at different Victorian artefacts and had to guess what they were used for. They particularly enjoyed trying on the old hats. The class then had a workshop making toys that would have been used by the Victorians, and they enjoyed sharing their new toys with each other.

Year 2 - PSHCE Work

Year 2 have been learning about communication as part of their PSHCE work. This week they practiced their listening skills by listening to step by step instructions for drawing an alien. They then compared it to the image that had been described.

Puppets

In Textiles, Year 1 have been designing, making and evaluating puppets. The children chose a character from the tale of 'Little Red Riding Hood' to turn into a puppet. They learnt how to join using glue and decorated their puppets following their design.
