Year 3 have been busy petrologists (rock scientist) this half term. First, we investigated the properties of a selection of rocks by testing their hardness, appearance, density and finally if they reacted to a drop of weak acid (vinegar).
We then learnt about three different rock types and how they form. We used layers of bread to make a sedimentary rock complete with a fossilized sea creature. The class looked at how igneous rock can cool quickly and form obsidian or slowly to form pumice (the only rock that floats).
We also used play-doh to experiment how heat and pressure can change sedimentary and igneous rocks into a new type of rock called metamorphic.
Year 4 learnt a song and added their own verse to explain how they travel.

States of Matter – Chemistry
Investigating the properties of liquids
Year 4 carried out an investigation today to help Kevin, a hotdog stall owner. We tested three types of ketchup to see which was the runniest. We then tested the taste of each ketchup to see which was the tastiest.
To test this we squirted each ketchup at a giant hotdog. Ketchup C was so runny it got on the blinds! Ketchup B ran down to the ground but ketchup A stayed on the hotdog.
Volunteers tasted each ketchup, it was decided that ketchup A tasted best.
We think Kevin should pick ketchup A. This ketchup is the most expensive though, so if Kevin cannot afford this he could pick ketchup B, which was our second choice.
On Tuesday 12th September 2023, Year 1 visited a Toy exhibition at Peterborough Museum. The children took part in a ‘Toys from the Past’ workshop where they learnt about and handled toys from the past. They also made their own pop-up puppets. In the afternoon, the children explored different artefacts in the toy exhibition.
On Thursday 13th July 2023, we held our annual Sports Day with many parents and carers spectating.
We have been participating in inter-house competitions across the whole school. The children were split into houses and competed against each other. They played football, netball and hockey whilst cheering and encouraging their peers, demonstrating fantastic examples of sportspersonship.
We had a great morning exploring the quiet seaside resort of Old Hunstanton. The children built sandcastles on the beach, litter picked and spotted the features of a seaside. In the afternoon, we had a rock pool workshop at the Sea Life Centre where the children had the opportunity to touch a starfish, find out interesting facts about rock pool creatures and handle a range of different seaside artifacts. Following this, we went on an adventure around the aquarium to see sharks, otters, penguins, seals, clownfish, rays and many more.
